The USA spans a huge territory, full of beauty and contradictions. The weather alone brings joys and terror. In one day, a single location, can have temperature swings greater than 25 degrees Celsius. The morning may be a beautiful summer day; a few hours latter the same place can experience a full snow blizzard. Hail can be the size of baseballs; tornadoes will often rip a narrow path through towns, leaving behind destroyed houses and many lives. Tornadoes, Hurricanes, and all weather events hit poor neighborhoods just as they hit wealthy ones. But some people are better prepared than others, to cope with these uncertainties. Well built structures will better safeguard the life of their occupants. Good construction is costlier, bad construction hurts the most disadvantaged in society, and ultimately all of us...

In 2009 the Economy is the issue, more on that later...Life goes on...

The "Across America" page is a photo journal of a two week trip in March 2007. From Morgantown West Virginia, south through Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama down to Enterprise, just recovering from a tornado that killed 9 students at the local High School. Then on through Florida, to the Mississippi and Louisiana Gulf Cost slowly recovering from the ravages of Hurricane Katrina. Then across Galveston island and the rest of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, all the way to San Diego California. Returning east via the high deserts of California, Arizona on to Albuquerque New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania to West Virginia. 5600 Miles in two weeks, icy roads, wind, hail, thunderstorms, sand storms, snow, rain, all in a day's driving across America.

Since this the island of Galveston was almost completely wiped out by hurricane Ike in 2008. Who knows what 2009 will bring...
