



Visit to Gulfcoast | | Up | Mississipi Coast | Pass-Christian,Ms | New Orleans | 9th Ward, New Orleans | St. Bernard, La In March 2007 I made a visit to the area affected by Hurricane Katrina. I spent time speaking with residents, looking at the reconstruction efforts and ongoing clean-up. The link below is to a photo gallery of Pass-Christian, Ms., one of the hardest hit areas. This was how the area looked following Katrina's fury.

Pass Christian, Ms., October 4, 2005 -- Aerial photo shows the only surviving home in the area that was completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Foundations are all that remain of most of the neighboring homes. Surviving home was built using many FEMA standards. Mississippi resident Scott Sunberg is building a steel reinforced concrete house using many FEMA building standards that would minimize potential destruction from a hurricane. Hurricane Katrina came through this area and his was the only house still standing in the neighorhood.John Fleck/FEMA Pass Christian, Miss., February 6, 2006 -- The house of Don and Rose Blanchard, rebuilt just 10 months prior to Hurricane Katrina using best mitigation practices, sustained little damage from the storm.
